Safety Tips

Safety Tips
Candles have been around since the dawn of time, and are now more popular than ever. While candles were used in the past as a source of light, they are now used as a source of home décor, fragrance and just to set a pleasant relaxing mood. Many people use candles every day as a way to pamper themselves and add a special touch to their homes.

If used properly, a quality made candle can enhance your environment and provide a source of pleasure, set a romantic mood, light up your dinner table or even help remove offensive odours from your home.  There are, however, some very important guidelines that need to be followed in order to safely use these products. As a consumer, you need to educate yourself on the products you are using, and make sure you are using them properly.

Our family takes great pride in producing our hand poured candles using only the highest quality ingredients. The wick is cotton with a zinc core. To further ensure our customers safety, we use a specially designed tab with our wick that stops the candle from burning approximately 1/2'' from the bottom of the container

Burning Tips

  • Read instructions on the bottom of jar.
  • Always place candles on a protected heat resistant surface away from children and drafts.
  • Never leave burning candle unattended.
  • Never close the lid on a burning candle.
  • It is advisable to put a small amount of water (just enough to cover bottom surface) in the following glass containers before lighting: 3-wick candy dishes (2 teaspoons), 12 oz. jars for refills (1 tablespoon), votive holders (1/2 teaspoon), and peg lights (2 teaspoons). The water will reduce the chance of glass cracking & makes it easier to remove leftover wax.
  • Keep the wick trimmed to 1/8"
  • Keep wax pool free from foreign objects (i.e., matches, wick trimmings).
  • Do not allow flame to directly touch the side of container. Keep wick centred.
  • Recommended burning time for our most popular size of candle (12 oz.) is 5 to 6 hours for the first time, then at least 3 hours every time after that. (A general rule for burning candles is to burn them at least 1 hour for every inch in diametre).
  • Once candle has burned down to 1/2" from bottom of jar (width of finger) extinguish candle. After candle wax has hardened, close the jar, turn jar upside down and put it in the freezer overnight. The wax will shrink making it easier to remove (see instruction #5). Store leftover wax in a plastic bag and put in freezer. When the occasion arises that you want the house to smell nice, but do not have 3 hours to burn a candle, take some leftover wax and melt it in a potpourri burner.
  • Store candles in a cool dark place.
